Phillis, a slave to poetry

"Phillis, a slave to poetry", is a stage play dramatizing a day in the life of Phillis Wheatley, a Boston slave who became the first published Black poet in America.

In the Spring of 1773, Phillis has travels to London at the invitation of an English aristocrat. She is heralded as a 'LADY of LETTERS' and becomes the pet of nobility. But just before a royal command performance, Phillis learns that her mistress, who is still in Boston, has fallen gravely ill. She must decide whether to return to slavery in America or stay in England - a free and published poet.
